COMMUNITY EXPO: The state of business
Event offers residents update on northwest, access to local vendors

Something was wrong with this picture. At a time when families are losing their homes at record rates and many businesses are struggling, the video at the front of the banquet room spoke in glowing terms of Las Vegas' economic outlook.

The video was shown at the Centennial Hills Update 2009 and Community Expo, held at Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Drive, Feb. 19.

Planners say no to cell tower in residential area
Homeowners claim proposal is wrong for their neighborhood

The TV commercials warn that it's a dead zone. But residents at Elkhorn Road and Torrey Pines Drive say their cell phones work just fine, thank you, and a new cell tower in their midst is not needed. On Feb. 19, Clark County planning commissioners agreed.

The item was denied four to three, with Commissioners Donna Tagliaferri, Maude Frasier, Vivian Kilarski and Greg Esposito all voting for denial, and Commissioners Charlie Johnson, Cliff Marshall and Ron Newell voting for approval.
