NEVADA SENIOR GAMES: Swinging into a new era
Softball tournament marks beginning of athletic outreach

By JACK BULAVSKY
SPECIAL TO VIEW

Some call it Nevada Senior Games. Others refer to it as Nevada Senior Olympics. But no matter what it's called, the organization offers adults 50 years and older the opportunity to compete and demonstrate they can still hit a 12-foot jumper on the basketball court, compete in a 10K bicycle road race, sink a 20-foot golf putt, or bowl a near perfect 300 game.

The competition is scheduled to begin with a softball tournament co-hosted by the Las Vegas Senior Softball Association, April 18 to May 5. That event will be followed by the 3-on-3 basketball tournament May 16-17; and then the Nevada USA Track and Field Championship, co-sponsored by Nevada Senior Games and UNLV, at UNLV, May 30-31. The winners in these events will later vie for gold, bronze and silver medals at the Nevada Senior Olympics, Sept. 21 through Oct. 11 at venues across the city.
