Saving home sweet home
Couple able to keep house after getting new loan

The American dream is becoming a nightmare as area families are losing their homes in the mortgage crisis. Just ask Summerlin-area residents Harlan and Misty Sumner.

The 30-something couple bought their first home five years ago. The house was a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath fixer-upper with everything they wanted -- double sinks in the master bathroom, a big backyard for the child they were expecting and a three-car garage.

Job loss, foreclosure listed as primary reasons people end up on streets

Hundreds of volunteers took to the streets of Clark County earlier this year to help the Southern Nevada Homeless Coalition with a biennial tally of valley homeless.

The results of the survey were made public in early April, when it was revealed that the number of homeless had increased from 11,417 in 2007 to 13,338 in 2009.
