Members of the local Sikh temple gathered last week for traditional Indian food and music to commemorate Vaisakhi Mela, a festival celebrated mostly in north India that marks the start of a new harvest.
A high-energy band set the tone for the evening as musicians thumped drums and struck the keyboard, accompanying several singers. The women and young girls were adorned with lavish jewelry and vibrantly colored dresses. Patrons snacked on naan, pullao rice and curry-infused dishes.
