Lending a helping hand
Samoa O Nevada gathers clothing for victims of Polynesian islands tsunami

When disaster hits close to home, it is what you do to reach out to others that determines the depth of your character.

That is the philosophy of members of the North Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization Samoa O Nevada, a group that strives to keep Samoan culture and tradition alive in Las Vegas, when news broke of a crushing tsunami that swept the Polynesian islands in September.

Talk on proposed city diversity policy pushed to December

Newly elected Ward 3 North Las Vegas Councilwoman Anita Wood asked City Manager Gregory Rose during the Nov. 4 City Council meeting that he instruct staffers to conduct a critical needs assessment study, detailing how various departments and programs might be able to save money.

"I would honestly like to know where we stand and where we go from here," she said. "Where can we make cuts ... what do we absolutely need."
