Learning nonprofits
Education program teaches students how to focus on philanthropic efforts

Beginning last year, the Public Education Foundation gave high school students the power to act as donors through a unique program named We R Community.

Each participating high school is given $5,000 to donate to a local nonprofit organization at the end of the school year. Chosen nonprofits are selected through a grant application process that the students initiate.

Town Square to host pastry fundraiser for Rape Crisis Center

Everyone knows what a bake sale is, but what's a gourmet pastry fair?

"A gourmet pastry fair is a fundraiser for the Rape Crisis Center," said Hannah Johnston, director of development for the center. "We're going to have unique French pastries, organic breads, gourmet cupcakes and cookies, and even custom wedding cakes from renowned pastry chefs and local bakers who are coming together to offer these sweet creations on behalf of the Rape Crisis Center."
