Learning nonprofits
Education program teaches students how to focus on philanthropic efforts

Beginning last year, the Public Education Foundation gave high school students the power to act as donors through a unique program named We R Community.

Each participating high school is given $5,000 to donate to a local nonprofit organization at the end of the school year. Chosen nonprofits are selected through a grant application process that the students initiate.

Eight-year-old ice skater has her eye on the Olympics

She's 40 pounds of dynamic energy, is learning to execute a double lutz and has her eye on qualifying for the Winter Olympics eight years from now.

When it comes to ice skating, Las Vegas resident Ashelen Course, 8, also has a secret weapon ... make that two secret weapons. Both her parents were professional skaters with "Holiday on Ice" and "Ice Capades."
