UNLV RECEIVED DONATION TO FUND FULL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

UNLV received a $12.6 million donation from the Engelstad Family Foundation to support a program that will award annual full-tuition scholarships to students based on academic excellence, leadership, community service involvement and financial need.

The award is renewable up to four years.

green valley accepting donations for childhood cancer foundation

Green Valley High School, 460 N. Arroyo Grande Blvd., is accepting donations for the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation for David Garcia, a senior defensive lineman on the school's football team, who is battling leukemia.

unlv grad receives writing award

Vu Tran, a UNLV graduate and English instructor, received the 2009 Whiting Writers' Award for his collection of short stories on Vietnamese culture and immigrant life. The award is given by the Giles Whiting Foundation to up-and-coming writers of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and playwriting. Tran, 34, is one of 10 writers to receive the award and a $50,000 prize this year.

USN TO OFFER MBA IN SPRING SEMESTER

The University of Southern Nevada is accepting applications for the January start of its Master of Business Administration program. Courses will be taught on Friday evenings and Saturdays and financial aid is available for qualifying students.
