North Las Vegas resident Martha Valella knows what it's like to endure the Southern Nevada heat without an air conditioner. But that's not a hardship she's had to worry about this year.

Valella received a new air-conditioning unit at the beginning of the summer, courtesy of the Nevada State Contractors Board and Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association fifth annual Mission Cool-Off program.
