CITY SEEKS REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ADVISORY COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS
The city of Las Vegas' Redevelopment Agency is seeking volunteers to serve on the recently created nine-member Citizens Advisory Committee. The committee will provide input and advice on redevelopment projects and programs while proposing new ideas.
Members must live in the Redevelopment Area or be specialists employed in specific fields detailed in the committee's bylaws. All advisory committee members will be appointed by Las Vegas City Council for the unpaid positions.
Committee members will need to complete a training course about how redevelopment works generally as well as the Redevelopment Area and its operations.
To apply visit lasvegasnevada.gov, click on "I want to apply for," then on "boards and commissions." Then, click on "Interest Form" on the far right-hand column. Send the completed form, a letter of interest and a resume to City Clerk, Las Vegas City Hall, 400 Stewart Ave., or fax it to 382-4803.

SOLAR PANEL-COVERED PARKING AREAS UNVEILED AT STUPAK COMMUNITY CENTER
The city of Las Vegas unveiled new covered parking areas topped with solar panels at Stupak Community Center, 251 Boston Ave., on Dec. 9.
NV Energy officials presented a rebate check for more than $400,000 in recognition of the city's work to install the energy panels at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. North, and at Fire Station No. 10, 1501 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
The city hopes to reach a 15 percent renewable energy standard for all operations by 2011 under the solar parking plan and separate renewable energy projects at the city's wastewater treatment plant.

CITY OF LAS VEGAS TO CLOSE FOR A WEEK
City of Las Vegas administrative functions will be closed Friday through Jan. 2, reopening on Jan. 3. This closure includes the holidays of Christmas and New Year's Day and the days of Monday through Dec. 30 as furlough days.
Essential public safety functions such as fire and rescue, city marshal services, animal control, parking enforcement and sewage plant operations will continue as normal.

BAND TOPS ENTRIES IN SPRINGS PRESERVE'S FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEO CLIP COMPETITION
Local band Poppermost won the first Las Vegas Springs Preserve YouTube Video Clip Contest. Band members Alex Oliver and Roy Rendahl combined "the energetic and hurried Strip activity and the serenity of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve" to capture two different sides of Las Vegas.
The group won a Flip video camera, six general admission tickets to Springs Preserve, a $75 voucher for the Springs Cafe by Wolfgang Puck and an award certificate.

RUN, WALK AND CARNIVAL TO KICK OFF ANNUAL GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SALES
Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada will debut its Thin Mint Sprint 5K & 1 Mile Shortbread Shuffle at 9 a.m. Jan. 22 at the Girl Scout Leadership Center at 2941 Harris Ave. The registration cost is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the shuffle before Jan. 5. After that, the price increases to $30 and $20, respectively.
After the race, the 15th Annual Cookie Carnival is scheduled to kick off annual Girl Scout cookie sales at 10 a.m. Jan. 22. Both events are open to the public. Cookie sales begin Jan. 29.

URBAN CHAMBER SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR BUSINESS INCUBATOR
The Urban Chamber of Commerce and the city of Las Vegas have launched a business incubator in West Las Vegas. Applications are being accepted from small-business owners interested in space.
The 17,100-square-foot facility is at 1951 Stella Lake St. in Enterprise Park across from the FBI Regional Headquarters. There are 10 1,200-square-foot spaces. An additional 5,171 square feet of office space also is available.
