LAS VEGAS BRASS BAND TO PLAY AT DESERT VISTA COMMUNITY CENTER

The Las Vegas Brass Band plans to perform at 2 p.m. Sunday in the ballroom at the Desert Vista Community Center, 10360 Sun City Blvd.

The musicians are a mixture of showroom regulars, members of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, music teachers and their students.

The cost is $5 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the following community centers in Sun City Summerlin: Desert Vista, 10360 Sun City Blvd.; Mountain Shadows, 9107 Del Webb Blvd.; or Pinnacle, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd. All ticket sales are check or cash with exact change required.

LAS VENTANAS TO PRESENT DOCUMENTARY FILMS

In celebration of its sixth anniversary, Las Ventanas, 10401 W. Charleston Blvd., has teamed up with the Las Vegas Film Festival to present free film screenings at 2:30 p.m. every Sunday in July.

The film series will feature documentaries and projects by film students from UNLV.

"Fighter Pilot" will be featured Sunday. The film allows a view of an intense, simulated air combat training event from the cockpit with the world's best pilots. It is presented by Boeing and originally was created for exhibition in IMAX theaters.

"Somewhere Near Tapachula" is planned for July 18. In the film, Pam and Alan Skuse left Australia to volunteer at a Mexican orphanage for one year, and they are still there 10 years later. The film is a 2010 Mountainfilm in Telluride Official Selection.

A UNLV Short Film Block is set to be featured on July 25.

Admission for the screenings is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and must be reserved.

'ELVIS MY WAY' HEADED TO SUNCOAST STAGE

CHARLIE FRANKS TO PORTRAY ELVIS AT STARBRIGHT THEATRE

Tribute artist Charlie Franks plans to perform a tribute to Elvis Presley at 7 p.m. July 17 at the Starbright Theatre, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd.

Tickets are $12 for Sun City Summerlin residents and $20 for nonresidents.

Addison's Lounge in the Rampart Casino, 221 N. Rampart Blvd., announces its lineup for early July.

The Ronnie Rose Quartet is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

There is no cover charge for those two bands.

"Frank & Barbra: The Concert That Never Was" is planned for 8 p.m. July 16-17 and 4 p.m. July 18. Tickets are $15 at the casino cage or $20 at the door.

DAVID CASSIDY COMING TO THE SILVERTON

Actor, singer and songwriter David Cassidy is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in the pavilion at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road. Cassidy is best known for his role as Keith Partridge in the 1970s sitcom "The Partridge Family."

PALMS PLAYS HOST MONDAY TO SANTA FE AND THE FAT CITY HORNS

Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns are slated to perform at 10:30 p.m. every Monday in the lounge at the Palms. The band's music is a mix of funk, Latin, rock and jazz. The band has more than 30 years of experience playing in Las Vegas.

IMAGINE DRAGONS SUPPORT INJURED TROOPS WITH NEW SONG

Local rock quintet Imagine Dragons released a new single, "America," to raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, a charity that provides services to severely injured men and women of the U.S. armed forces.

"America" and its video are available for free on the band's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/imaginedragons. The Spring Valley-based band encourages those who download the song to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.

GRANDMA LEE GETS SUMMER-LONG BOOKING AT BONKERZ

Comedian and "America's Got Talent" finalist Grandma Lee will be headlining at Bonkerz Comedy Club at Palace Station through Sept. 4.

Bonkerz offers shows at 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Tickets are $34.95, and locals with a valid ID receive a $15 discount. Doors open one hour before showtime, and guests must be 18 or older.

NATIONAL COMMUNITY BAND TO PERFORM SUNDAY AT UNLV

A free concert by The National Community Band, a project of the John Philip Sousa Foundation, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Artemus Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

The National Community Band's 80 members are adult amateur musicians from around the United States and Canada. The group is led by Col. John R. Bourgeois, director emeritus of United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C.

The event is open to the public.

Scottish Country Dancing coming to Charleston Heights arts center

The Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., plans to host Scottish Country Dancing at 8:45 p.m. Fridays during July.

SHOW FEATURING PUPPET TEACHES CHILDREN ABOUT EVOLUTION

The Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., will feature Hudson Vagabond Puppet "Mammoth Follies," a show that explores the theory of evolution through original songs, jokes and dance performed by giant dinosaur puppets. The show begins at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR SUMMER CHILDREN'S CONCERT SERIES DOWNTOWN

Tickets are on sale for the downtown children's concert series, with events scheduled for July 15 and July 22.

Children's musicians Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, with special guest Christylez Bacon, are scheduled to perform at 2 and 7 p.m. July 15. The Billy Jonas trio is set to perform at 2 and 7 p.m. July 22.

Tickets are $3 each or $10 for a family four-pack. Performances are scheduled to take place inside the Historic Fifth Street School Auditorium, 401 S. Fourth St.
