Mothers know best
Local MOMS Club chapter named world's best

A group of stay-at-home moms in Southern Highlands recently was recognized for its support of the community and each other. The women are part of Moms Offering Moms Support, or MOMS, a nonprofit organization that began more than 20 years ago in Simi Valley, Calif., as a daytime support group for mothers and their kids.

MOMS Club International presented MOMS Club of Southern Highlands last month with its Outstanding Chapter Award for the 2010 bookkeeping year that ended June 30.

Academy's new program serves needs of autistic kids

The Autism Academy at Cumorah, which describes itself as the state's first private autism academy for children with all levels of Autism Spectrum Disorders, opened for its inaugural semester Sept. 7.

Twenty-four autistic children ages 5 to 14 attend the 6000 W. Oakey Blvd. academy.
